Roanoke

Gracious, I've been busy. Yesterday was Easter, so there were people to see and treats to eat. I love holidays!
Mother and father also took me to a park yesterday. We had a picnic, and after that, they conducted a strange little exercise--they placed these oval-shaped plastic treat containers in the grass and told me to "go find them." Go find them? I was looking right at them!! I obliged the humans, though, placing my nose on each plastic oval, whereupon they would clap excitedly and crack the ovals open to give me the treats inside. Why not just give me the treats directly?! Sometimes I wonder what goes on in their heads.
Anyway, today's post is about the weekend before this one. We went to Roanoke to spend some time with my great-uncle and great-grandmother. What a wonderful house. It was built in 1916, six years after my great-grandmother was born. She didn't move into it until 1925, when she was fifteen. She spent many years in places like Iowa, Tennessee, North Carolina, and the D.C. area, traveling for her husband's work, but the house in Roanoke has stayed in the family.

Father spent a little time working on another piece of family property--a 1963 Chevrolet Bel Air. His grandmother drove it as her main car until a couple of years ago, and it started right up this time. They don't make cars like they used to, do they?

We took a drive and father picked up a tire pressure gauge. Unfortunately, the auto parts store was next to a pawn shop, and the pawn shop was guarded by two enormous mastiffs who were not pleased to see me pull up. You could say that we exchanged words.

Thankfully, father returned just in time. We drove off and I dazzled southeast Roanoke with my rakish good looks.

We took my aunt Libby on a ride the next day. I do love those big couch-like backseats!

All that riding around and hanging one's head out the window of a classic car makes a hound tired. Good thing the hotel is dog-friendly.
